Kids & Culture: Love in Nature

Kids & Culture Logo February's Kids and Culture event will be held at the CMU Museum from 10am-12pm on Saturday, February 8. "Love in Nature" will explore the biodiversity of male and female plants and animals as some of the more unique courtship habits of wildlife in Spring are shared. Just in time for Valentine's Day, participants can write a love note for someone special and take it home or add it to the Valentine's Day collage for display in the museum. This event is free and appropriate for all ages. Thank you to the Kids & Culture series' generous co-sponsors: Migizi Economic Development Company, WCFX, and the Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club.

CMU's Museum is in Rowe Hall, on the corner of Bellows Street and East Campus Drive, Mount Pleasant. Parking is free on weekends and you may park in any lot around the Museum.

Underwater Cultural Resources Public Access and Research Conference

Underwater Cultural Resources Public Access and Research Conference The Underwater Cultural Resources Public Access and Research Conference is a three-day conference being held February 25-27 at the Courtyard by Marriott, Central Michigan University. This conference examines public access to Michigan's underwater cultural resources (UCRs) and the research potential these resources hold. The conference will highlight current research using UCRs, engage constituents and stakeholders in discussion of current issues fostering or inhibiting research, and develop an action plan that will direct the future study of these fragile resources. Public access, tourism, and management of water-dependent use in coastal communities is also being promoted through increased attention to current research. Michigan has emerged as a leader in UCR management with the addition of the first National Marine Sanctuary on the Great Lakes, which is co-managed by the state and federal governments. Although this has helped to better manage a finite group of underwater resources, it has also created new issues and potential partnerships that are unique to Michigan, which this conference will seek to further identify and solidify plans to address. The conference is free of charge and open to the public.

Financial assistance for this project was provided by the Coastal Management Program, Water Resources Division, Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, under the National Coastal Zone Management Program, through a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, and the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at Central Michigan University.
