MST 320 In Action

MST 320 Ron Bloomfield's MST 320 (Collections Management) students are pictured at the Bohannon Schoolhouse. Students worked in groups this semester to answer a series of questions about the historic structure of the Schoolhouse and the contents of the Gerald L. Poor Museum in preparation for later discussion of the care of historic structures and historic house museums. There was a lot to talk about!

MST 325 In Action

MST 325 Caity Burnell's MST 325 (Public Programming in Museums) students recently chose a case in the Museum and then chose an audience for which to create a presentation. Pictured here is MST student Matt Hood giving an interpretation of the fur trader's cabin. The goal was for students to incorporate an activity or artifact into interpretative presentations. They did a great job!

HST 580 in Action

HST 580 Dr. Jay Martin's HST 580 (Public History) students, many of whom are also Museum Studies minors, learned about museum education by attending class in the Bohannon Schoolhouse/Gerald L. Poor Museum. Thanks to Museum Educator Caity Burnell for the great presentation and to the students for wonderful discussion!

Where are they Now? Marie Taylor

Marie Taylor Marie (Morgan) Taylor (2005) has been a Preservation Technician with the National Archives in St. Louis, Missouri, since 2015. After graduating from CMU, Marie moved to St. Louis to pursue a graduate degree in History with a certificate in Museum Studies. While working in various areas of the museum field, she became part of the team at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) working on the burned files from the 1973 fire at the former Military Personnel Records Center. In this photo she is photographing an extremely special military service record that cannot be handled in the research room. This service record was salvaged from the USS Arizona after it was sunk in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Marie says, "I love my job and work that we do to provide access to special collections like these."

Museum Studies Club Activities

Museum Studies Club The Museum Studies Club volunteered at the Chippewa Nature Center's "Nature at Night" Program on October 27. The Club helped with face painting, trail monitoring, and obstacle course monitoring. It was not only a night full of fun for the kids, but also for those who volunteered. Another activity sponsored by the Club was speaker Ron Bloomfield on November 5. Ron spoke about his research on the preservation of time capsules. He enthralled members with an extremely engaging talk. More speakers are to come within the month of November.

Cultural Resource Management Society

CRM Cultural Resource Management (CRM) Society members continue to support each other this week as several of the masters' candidates take the core course comprehensive exams. Best of luck to all candidates!
