Bugs! Thrilling Thursdays Downtown Mount Pleasant (TODAY)!

Bugs! We are bringing our creepy crawly insects with us for this Thrilling Thursday (TONIGHT!) downtown, from 6-8 p.m. Not only will you be able to learn about and see real bugs, you will also get to participate in activities! Come and get your own magnifying glass and some other goodies, and look through the grass at Town Center to see what types of things are living right under our feet. Make sure you wear your old clothes because you may want to paint your hands and feet as well! Soap and water will be provided, but this is a ?dig in? type of event and you never know what you might find once you get here! Thrilling Thursdays are presented in part by Isabella Community Credit Union! Visit them at www.iccuonline.com/.

Tour Tuesdays

Tour Tuesday We hope you heard us on www.wcfx.com as they spent their Summer Tour Stop Tuesday at the Bohannon Schoolhouse/Gerald L. Poor Museum. Twenty people joined us to experience a typical school day in 1901. They wrote on slate boards, played vintage games like Button Button and Game of Graces, and saw an exhibit about the animals students may have seen as they walked to school.

Upcoming Tour Tuesdays are all free, from 10:00-11:00am, and are fun for all ages. Join us on:

July 17, Money Talks! Get rich with knowledge about world currencies, how paper money is designed, and how daily transactions make the world run! Participants will see money from around the world, create their own paper bills, and play an interactive game about buying and selling on both local and global levels.

July 24, Lost to the Lakes Hear the stories of the boats that sank by war, storms, and other tragedies in Michigan maritime history. Learn how boats stay afloat and what to have with you in a lifeboat in case an accident occurs on the water.

July 31, Civilian Muster Almost everyone knows what happened from the perspective of the military during the Civil War, but civilian life is often overlooked. While men were away fighting, life at home did not stop. Participants are welcome to try on Civil War era clothing, explore both military and civilian objects, and get a feel for what people did for entertainment at the time.

Tour Tuesday parking is available in Lot 14, immediately south of Rowe Hall. CMU guest parking passes are available upon arrival or can be requested online at apps.cmich.edu/vehicleregistration/guest/default.aspx.

Where are they now? Hannah Gulick (2012)

Gulicks Hannah Gulick and her husband Ben, also a CMU alumnus (2013), moved to Japan in the summer of 2016 when she was hired as an English teacher at a senior high school. She majored in Anthropology and History and minored in Museum Studies. Hannah says, "If not for my time at CMU, I would never have found my passion for Japanese culture, which then led me to move to Japan and find my other passion: teaching!" She and Ben plan on moving back to the U.S. in August. Hannah hopes to return to the field of museum work. The photo was taken in Numata Park, Numata City, Japan, in front of one of the famous cherry blossom trees in Numata Park. Curious Curators 2018 Exhibit

Six young people were selected for participation in Curious Curators 2018 by writing an essay describing their interest in museums. They spent the day with Museum permanent staff and Museum Assistants exploring history and natural history collections, the dermestid lab, the Poor Museum/Bohannon Schoolhouse, and creating the first stages of the Museum's new temporary exhibit, to debut in spring 2019. If you'd like to see what they created, please visit the Main Gallery of the Museum and look for the Curious Curators exhibit case.
