Museum On Track for Another Record Setting Year

Caity in Museum Because of the generosity of two grants from the Mount Pleasant Area Community Foundation, the Museum is on track to set another record for hosting K-12 field trips this year. Thanks to the education team and volunteers, led by Caity Burnell, Museum Educator, the Museum expects to host over 6,000 students by the end of June. Well done museum educators! And thanks to the John R. and Constance M. Harkins Community Fund for their generous support.

Where are they now?  (Bill McElhone, 1984)

Bill I was a volunteer at the CMU Museum while working both History and Art degrees and minor in biology (now known as Museum Studies). Central gave me plenty of hands-on experience and academic training that supported pursuit of an MA in History and Archive Administration from Wayne State University. I have been working in museums since high school and am glad that CMU provided the foundational work for a career in museums. I now work at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum and have been in leadership positions for the last 17 years. I still have the opportunity to dive into historical research with collections. The Kalamazoo Valley Museum regularly works with interns from around the state and northern Indiana. Please let my fellow Chips know that they should check out www.kalamazoomuseum.org for details for intern and volunteer opportunities. For Museum jobs they should check Kalamazoo Valley Community College's HR website.

Student Spotlight: Cassie Olson

Cassie This month's student spotlight is Cassie Olson. Cassie is a double major in public history and German, with a minor in museum studies. She is a Museum education student assistant and focuses on visitor evaluation procedures and measures. She enjoys working at the museum because of the people she gets to interact with ? both visitors and her coworkers ? which make her job enjoyable and fulfilling. Cassie also is the Clarke Historical Library's inaugural Student Paper Award winner. Congratulations Cassie!

MST Club Happenings

MST Club The MST Club hosted former CMU Cultural Resrouce Management masters student Brad Collins on February 26.
