Saving Time: Stabilizing Waterlogged Historical Items

Waterlooged Book Water usually has a disastrous impact on the life of historical items. Whether the damage is from a flood or a leaking time capsule, time is of the essence to save and stabilize these items. Join Ron Bloomfield, MCNH collections manager, as he discusses three real-life scenarios of waterlogged materials and demonstrates the methods used to stabilize these important artifacts of our past. On the campus of Central Michigan University in Rowe Hall, Rom 205, Saturday, December 2, 10am to 12pm.

Natural History Collections Prepared for Future Accreditation

Zoology Collections Area Exciting progress has been made toward assessment of our Natural History Collection and toward future accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums. This week contractors removed the old carpet and tile in Rowe Hall Room 123B (popularly known as ?Zoology?). This modification prepares the room for use as a center of Natural History Collection assessment and brings it in alignment with basic AAM accreditation standards.

Collections Students Volunteer

Collections Volunteer MST 320 Collections Management students have been volunteering with CMU Museum staff on cataloging new acquisitions. Through this process, students have been learning how to properly catalog and photograph artifacts as well as how to input new records into our collections database. Students have been working with CMU-related objects, military artifacts, and various 2D prints.
