Two Speaker Events Hosted by Clarke in October

This month saw two guest speakers visit the CMU campus as part of the Clarke's ongoing Speaker Series. Detroit Historical Society senior curator Joel Stone presented Remembering the Detroit Rebellion. This year the Detroit Historical Museum mounted the landmark Detroit 67: Perspectives exhibit and Joel's presentation discussed how the far ranging exhibition came together. Further information about the presentation can be found in Frank Boles's blog about the event. Filmmakers Alan Headbloom and Charles K. Campbell both presented videos. Headbloom's screening was a documentary telling of the Newcomer Legacy: A Vietnamese-American Story in West Michigan while Campbell's film dramatized a slave escape from 1853 Boone County, Kentucky, using the Underground Railroad and was based on actual events.

Busy Month for Clarke Bloggers

October was a busy month for the News and Notes blog, with 10 new entries posted. In addition to Speaker Series postings by Director Frank Boles, CMU homecoming history and traditions were well covered by Digital Archivist Bryan Whitledge. Also, Archivist Marian Matyn has new postings to her personal blog Archivist Rising.

A recent Mount Pleasant Morning Sun article featured Digital Archivist Bryan Whitledge as a CMU history detective. The article quotes CMU Alumni Relations executive director Marcie Otteman commenting on the success of his research and includes an anecdote about his CMU research beyond the walls of the library.
