Tracking Definition: Configure Trackable Elements in Your Message

To access the tracking definition wizard for a given job: From the job's workflow page, click on Define Tracking.
Or from the job list, select the desired job, then in the job details pane, select the Summary tab and click on the Edit link in the Tracking section.

The Tracking Definition wizard defines if and how the messages sent with an email job is tracked by LISTSERV Maestro.

The wizard has five pages: Tracking Selection, Click Tracking, Type, Type Details, and Summary

The top row of the wizard displays links to these five pages. The page that is currently open is marked with a highlighted background color. Depending on the choices made on some of the wizard pages, other pages may become disabled or may be shown in different versions. If a wizard page is disabled, then it means that the page is not necessary with the current choices and can safely be ignored.

Type Details Page: Additional Details Depending on Tracking Type

Personal Tracking

If you selected Personal Tracking (or Permission-Based Personal Tracking) on the Type Page, then LISTSERV Maestro requires a unique tracking ID for each recipient. If LISTSERV Maestro has stored individual recipients, then this tracking ID must be specified in one of the recipient attributes. If LISTSERV's capability to determine recipients is used, then the tracking ID must be manually specified in LISTSERV Maestro.

Specify the column that contains the recipient ID. Depending on the selected options for the recipients, the page shows a pull down menu or an input field. Any column that contains unique values can be specified. A unique value means that the data in the column for each recipient is never repeated for any other recipient, and the column is never empty for any recipient.

If a column is chosen as the ID column that does not fulfill these requirements, the messages will still be sent, but the tracking results will not necessarily be accurate.

Note: If the recipients of the job are defined by a target group that is based on a Subscriber List, then the column that contains the recipient ID does not have to be provided because this information is already known to the system. In this case, the Type Details page is disabled.

Anonymous Tracking

If you selected Anonymous Tracking on the Type Page, then select the recipient attributes that will and will not identify individual recipients. Typical choices for anonymous attributes are those that contain non-identifying demographic or geographic information, such as age range, gender, city, or country . Attributes such as email address and name are, in most cases, considered personal and should be avoided in anonymous tracking.

To move attributes from the Identifying Columns to the Anonymous Columns, click on an attribute to select it. Next, click on the left arrow. The selected attribute moves to the Anonymous Columns. To move attributes from the Anonymous Columns to the Identifying Columns, click on an attribute to select it. Next, click on the right arrow. The selected attribute moves to the Identifying Columns.
