Define Recipients: Send to a List or Dataset in the Subscriber Warehouse

To access the recipients wizard for a given job: From the job's workflow page, click on Define Recipients.
Or from the job list, select the desired job, then in the job details pane, select the Summary tab and click on the Edit link in the Recipients section.

To access the recipients wizard for a given A/B-split job: On the A/B-Split Job Details page, click the Edit link in the Recipients section.

The Define Recipients wizard allows the defining of recipients that will receive the email message specified in the job when the job is finally sent.

The wizard has five pages: Options, Source, Source Details, Recipients Details, Advanced Settings, and Summary.

The top row of the wizard displays links to these five pages. The page that is currently open is marked with a highlighted background color. Depending on the choices made on some of the wizard pages, other pages may become disabled or may be shown in different versions. If a wizard page is disabled, then it means that this page is not necessary with the current choices and can safely be ignored.

Source Page: Select Subscriber Dataset or List

This screen allows you to define which subscriber list or dataset to send the email job to.

This screen displays all available subscriber datasets and/or lists in a tree structure. The tree shows the datasets in the Subscriber Warehouse and any categories and subscriber lists found in the datasets. Only datasets that include at least one subscriber list are shown. In turn, within the datasets, only those categories that contain at least one subscriber list are shown. datasets and/or categories that have no lists at all are not shown in the tree.

Datasets and category folders are shown with a icon (if the dataset category is closed) or icon (if the dataset or category is open). Click on the icon to close or respectively open a folder (double-clicking the folder name does not work).

If a dataset is selected in the tree, then a short description containing the dataset's name and internal description is displayed to the right.

If a subscriber list is selected in the tree, then a short description about that list (with name and internal description) is also displayed to the right.

The act of selecting a subscriber dataset or list in the tree is the purpose of this page. If you select a dataset and proceed with the wizard, then the email job is sent to subscribers of this dataset. If you instead select a subscriber list (if available), then this is the list to which the email job is sent. Therefore, the wizard cannot proceed until a dataset or a subscriber list has been selected in the tree.

Selecting a subscriber dataset or list (or the nested "All Dataset Subscribers" / "All List Subscribers" node) means that the email job is sent to all subscriber of the dataset or all subscribers of the list. If you plan to target your recipients more exactly, you select any of the "Advanced Recipient Selection" node (underneath each available dataset / list node) to prepare for this. With a node of this type selected, the "Source Details" wizard page is enabled and allows you to define further details on how LISTSERV Maestro shall determine the desired recipient subset for the email job.

If the list you selected from the tree is an advanced subscriber list, then you see an additional sub node here, named "Classic LISTSERV List Posting". This option is especially useful if you want to employ LISTSERV's advanced discussion list and public web archival features (much analogous to actually sending an email to the list's address outside of LISTSERV Maestro).
