Subscriber List Definition
-
To access the definition wizard for a subscriber list, open the node of the parent dataset of the desired list in the
Subscriber Datasets
subtree, to show its subnodes.
- For a standard dataset (in subscriber area mode), proceed to open the Lists subnode, to show the subtree with all the lists in the dataset. Select the desired subscriber list node in this subtree.
- For a "single list mode" dataset, there is no such "Lists" subnode. Simply select the node for the single list from the subnodes of the dataset node.
- To create a new subscriber list, select the desired parent dataset in the Subscriber Datasets subtree and select New -> Subscriber List from the menu (or go via the right-click menu of the dataset node in the explorer tree).
- To convert an existing Classic LISTSERV list into an advanced subscriber list in the LISTSERV Maestro Subscriber Warehouse or to create a clone (copy) of an existing Classic LISTSERV list as a new advanced subscriber list in LISTSERV Maestro, select the desired parent dataset in the Subscriber Datasets subtree and select New -> Convert or Clone Classic LISTSERV List from the menu (or go via the right-click menu of the dataset node in the explorer tree).
The Subscriber List wizard lets you define the settings of a subscriber list or edit an existing list.
Note: A subscriber list is only fully editable while it is "empty", meaning that there are no subscribers on the list. For a non-empty list, only certain settings are editable.
The wizard has eight pages:
General, Profile Fields, Profile Field Details, List Type, List Options, Posting Restrictions, Topics, and Summary
The top row of the wizard displays links to these pages. The page that is currently open is marked with a highlighted background color. Depending on the choices made on some of the wizard pages, other pages may become disabled or may be shown in different versions. If a wizard page is disabled, then it means that this page is not necessary with the current choices and can safely be ignored.
The LISTSERV Maestro admin may configure a user account or group so that it is only allowed to create standard announcement subscriber lists, but not advanced subscriber lists. If this is the case, then the wizard has only four pages and the "List Type", "List Options", "Posting Restrictions" and "Topics" pages are not shown.
Topics Page: Define LISTSERV List Topics
Note: This screen is disabled for a subscriber list in standard announcement mode and is not visible at all if the LISTSERV Maestro administrator has disabled advanced subscriber lists for the account or group.
The screen defines any list topics for the LISTSERV list. List topics are a special concept of LISTSERV lists. Please see the LISTSERV manuals for details.
You may optionally specify up to 23 different LISTSERV list topics. To define a new topic, click the New Topic link and fill out the empty topic row that appears. In the list, topics are displayed in the display mode or in the editable mode. In the display mode, each topic has an associated Edit link to set it into the editable mode. In the editable mode, each topic has the Reset (forget changes and resets the topic to the state it had when the editable mode was last entered), Up (moves the topic up one step in the topics list), Down (moves the topic down ones step in the topics list), and Remove (removes the topic) associated with it.
Note: If a list already contains subscribers, then the definition of the topics cannot initially be changed. To be able to change the topics, even for a list with subscribers on it, the advanced change mode needs to first be enabled by clicking the Enable advanced changes link.
When adding new topics to a list that already has subscribers, an additional option, Existing subscribers will have the new topics selected automatically, will be given. Check this option if the new topics being created are to be automatically added to existing subscribers' topics. Any subscribers added to the list after the topics change is submitted will be able to make their own choice about adding the new topics or not. This option applies to all topics that are created on this screen in the same list wizard session. If several topics are to be created, with some of them automatically being selected for existing subscribers and some of them not, then this must be done so by repeatedly entering the list wizard. First add one topic, check the option, then finish the wizard. Next, re-enter the wizard, and add the second topic but leave the option unchecked. Finally, finish the wizard again.
