Convert or Clone Classic LISTSERV List

To access the "Convert or Clone Classic LISTSERV List" page, select the desired parent dataset in the Subscriber Datasets subtree and select New -> Convert or Clone Classic LISTSERV List from the menu (or go via the right-click menu of the dataset node in the explorer tree).

This screen guides you through the process of creating an Advanced Subscriber List in the LISTSERV Maestro Subscriber Warehouse from one of your existing Classic LISTSERV lists.

Source

The selection box lists all classic LISTSERV lists that are accessible to your account and that have not yet been converted to an Advanced Subscriber List. Select the list to clone or to convert and click the [Read List] button. This will access LISTSERV and read all the list's settings and the current list subscriptions.

After the list has been read successfully, decide if you want to convert or clone the list.

Cloning means that a new list with a different name is created based on the original list, whose name, settings and subscriber data remain unchanged. If you decide to import the subscriber data, then also the old list's subscribers are imported to the new list.

Converting the list instead means that the original list will be fully migrated to an advanced subscriber list, which keeps the existing list archives and the potentially well-established public discussion list name.

Note: Regardless of the option you choose, the system will not modify anything at LISTSERV before you finally click the [  OK  ] button.

List Settings

After a list's details have been retrieved from LISTSERV in the step above, you can review and possibly modify the list settings by clicking the Refine Settings link. This opens the advanced subscriber list settings wizard. If you decided to clone the list, then the wizard will ask you to define a new name of the list.

Use the Profile Fields and Profile Fields Details pages of the advanced subscriber list settings wizard to define how to handle subscriber names during the import.

Default Values

If the list you selected for cloning or conversion has subscribers, then the subscription options and names of each are imported to the LISTSERV Maestro system database. The dataset or the refined list settings may however include additional (and potentially mandatory) profile fields. Since the details of a LISTSERV list subscription do not cover these additional profile field values, default values can be supplied for these fields. If any of these fields happen to be mandatory, the screen tells you so and marks the default value edit link appropriately.

Summary

This section summarizes the actions that will be performed once you click the [  OK  ] button.

Special Handling of Some LISTSERV Keywords

The following LISTSERV list keywords are treated specially:

Keyword Special Behavior

The system will inform you about any problems that may occur, read the screen messages carefully and discuss further steps with your system administrator.
Validate If deprecated values of this keyword are detected, then the system will modify them to achieve higher security.
